related to individual student requirements.
APH 242 Art Photography, Introduction II 3
S In-depth study of color photographic techniques. Processing, printing, and
historical and contemporary models. Prereq: APH 241.
APH 243 Digital Imaging for Art Photography
3 S Art Photography students explore the applications of digital and electronic
photography as an art form. Using their own scanned photographs and digital
camera images, students will utilize the computer to construct new art work.
Prereq: APH 241.
APH 340 Topics in Art Photography 3 S Topics
selected before registration by the department and specified in the time schedule.
Prereq: APH 241,242. Typically courses include, “Lighting,” Advanced Digital output,” “Collaboration,” “Performance Art” and the “History of Photography.”
APH 341 Art Photography, Intermediate 3 Y
Development of a personal style and an extended body of work. Use of contemporary
and historical models to explore technical, critical, and aesthetic issues.
Prereq: APH 241,242.
APH 342 Art Photography, Intermediate II 3
Y Continuation of APH 341. Presentations, issues, and assignments based on the
work of contemporary and historical photographic artists to explore the visual
issues raised by these artists. Prereq: APH 341.
APH 441 Art Photography, Advanced 3 Y Black-and-white,
color, and variant techniques. Application leading to a personal visual statement
demonstrated by a final portfolio and BFA exhibition in the spring. Prereq: APH 341,342.
APH 442 Art Photography: Senior Presentation and
Portfolio 3 Y Portfolio presentation and research paper related to personal
photographic statement. Presenting ideas through exhibitions, presentation,
and written documentation. Prereq: APH 441.
APH 541 Art Photography Topics: Twentieth-Century
Artists 3 Y Twentieth-century artist-photographers studied through slides,
readings, lectures, and discussion. Prereq: APH 342.
APH 542 Art Photography Topics: Twentieth Century
Criticism 3 Y Twentieth Century Criticism: Twentieth-century critical theories and applications studied through readings, lectures, and discussion. Emphasis on student research and presentation.
Prereq: APH 541.
APH 640 Art Photography 3-12 SI Intensive
workshop geared toward individual student requirements within the context of
the development of an extended of body of work. Individual and group critique.
APH 740 Art Photography 3-12 SI Intensive
workshop geared toward individual student requirements within the context of
the development of an extended body of creative work. Individual and group critiques
used regularly. Open only to second-year graduate students.
APH 996 Final Presentation 3 S Written statement
to accompany final project, culminating in oral examination for M.F.A. degree.

APH997 Master's Thesis 1-6 S Formal master's
thesis. Written document exhibiting substantive and original research. Planned
