Equipment and Facilities

The Department of Transmedia Film program supports work in 16mm and Super 16mm film, DV, 24p and HDV video. The department has available for student use 11 synch-sound 16mm cameras including various Arri and Cinema Products cameras. There are Aaton XTR Prod and A-Minima Super 16mm cameras available to upperclassmen and graduate students. There are 15 non-synch cameras available for introductory students, experimental filmmakers and animators. The department has a large fleet of "ProSumer" video cameras based around Panasonic AGDVX 24p models and Sony HDV cameras. There are a large number of standard definition video cameras available as well.

Production equipment covers the standard range of grip and lighting equipment. The centerpiece is an extensive selection of Arri tungsten lighting instruments, rounded out with Lowell, Mole-Richardson and Colortran location lighting instruments. Standard grip equipment such as c-stands, nets, flags, frames, appleboxes and sandbags are available for checkout.

Field audio recording is done principally with Marantz compact-flash based digital recording devices and Sennheiser shotgun microphones. A large selection of specialty microphones, including Earthworks, Blue, AKG, Audix and Shure microphones are available for studio, Foley and ADR use.

Post production facilities include 2 HDV non-linear workstations, 4 standard definition non-linear workstations, an audio transfer and mastering suite and a next-generation digital audio recording suite outfitted for music recording, Foley, ADR, mixing and mastering. Introductory filmmakers and those who prefer to work in traditional modes have 9 Steenbeck and Moviola flatbed editing stations available in the post production facility.
